THS Has Tips For Those Summer Hair Blues

Written by on December 30, 2019

In the Summer months, swimming is a relaxing way to stay cool. However, swimming can be damaging to your hair. Be sure to saturate your mane before jumping in!

Hair can lose its moisture due to UV rays, chlorinated swimming pools, and salty ocean water.

The result? Dry, brittle and dull strands that are desperate for some extra TLC.

Tips That Help

Chlorine is stripping your hair of its natural protective oils.

Blondes, when swimming in chlorine you may find your locks taking on an unflattering greenish cast. This is caused by the copper molecules and other pool chemicals that bind to the protein in the hair shaft.

Ocean Water stresses hair in another way. The heavy salt content in seawater draws water out of your hair

Remember!

  • Saturate strands before taking a dip.
  • If your hair is drenched with clean water or leave-in conditioner, it won’t absorb as much saltwater or pool chemicals, It’s also a good idea to try to rinse your hair after a swim.

Shield Your Strands From The Sun

Signs of sun damage to your tresses include; discoloration, dry and brittle strands, broken or split ends, thinning and frizziness.

The Remedy

  • Invest in a good leave-in conditioner
  • In-salon Gloss treatment
  • Stay hydrated
  • UV blocking styling product (apply before heading outdoors. )
  • Cover your hair up (hat, scarf, turban)
